Barry Keoghan Discloses How He Became Batman's Joker 

Barry Keoghan, an Irish actor, tells how he earned the role of the Joker in Matt Reeves' The Batman through a self-filmed unsolicited Kubrick-esque audition tape. 

Despite his tiny debut in Matt Reeves' The Batman, Barry Keoghan discusses how he got the role of the new Joker. 

The Irish actor, best known for his appearances in The Banshees of Inisherin and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, claimed that he heard the role of the Riddler might be available.  

While no one asked or urged Keoghan to audition, he took the initiative and sent in a self-tape of him going down a hallway in slow motion without speaking. "I just made it up," Keoghan explained in an interview.

Keoghan appears in the film, which has been on the actor's Vimeo since 2019, dressed in all-black with green suspenders and a bowler hat. 

Keoghan strolls along a short hallway, channeling Malcolm McDowell's evil figure from Kubrick's classic, A Clockwork Orange. While Keoghan did audition for the role of the Riddler, 

which a producer for the picture stated had been offered to Jonah Hill but ultimately went to Paul Dano, the actor's agent called him to tell him that Reeves wanted him to play the Joker.

Keoghan's introduction as the Clown Prince of Crime came in the final seconds of The Batman, stunning viewers who thought he was playing another DC character,
